Time to say Kung hei fat choi and hang those lanterns

Lanterns, fortune cookies, money in little red and gold envelopes...

It’s that time of year when dragons and firecrackers are in the streets and the joy that is Chinese New Year spills over into the greater community.

This year marks the year of the rooster and here are the birth years for all you roosters out there.

Birth Years

Types Years of Birth
Wood Rooster 1945, 2005
Fire Rooster 1957, 2017
Earth Rooster 1909, 1969
Metal Rooster 1921, 1981

2017 is a fire rooster year. Trustworthy, with a strong sense of timekeeping and responsibility at work.

On the down side, 2017 in the Chinese calendar is considered not to be a good year for roosters.  Maybe you can counter that by not cutting the noodles.

It’s considered you’ll break your luck to cut noodles rather than break them with your hands when putting them on to cook. Also don’t cut with a knife on your plate.

Lucky numbers for roosters are 5, 7 and 8.  Unlucky colour is red (odd considering the proliferation of red and gold in Chinese custom).

Your unlucky numbers are 1, 3 and 9 and your unlucky direction is east. Your lucky colours are gold, brown and yellow.

And finally, your lucky web address is www.pkgreenshop.co.uk where you’ll find Chinese lanterns ready for hanging and a host of colourful lighting in all your lucky colours.

Here at PK Green, we’ll be chowing down (geddit?) on some crispy aromatic duck and a little egg fu yung.

The first of the year’s little celebrations to bring some colour into a drab winter. Go on, have some fun and visit us soon for some inspiration for the year of the rooster.
